Your Dental Checkup

The first portion of your appointment involves a standard checkup. Our team will take detailed X-rays of your mouth to spot any problems that might be hiding, such as cavities between your teeth or jawbone deterioration. Then, you’ll meet one-on-one with our very own Dr. Katherine Whitaker. She’ll spend some time getting to know you, your medical history, and your smile goals before conducting a thorough examination of your mouth, including every tooth, your gums, and any existing dental work. Using both her findings and X-rays, she’ll discuss a personalized treatment plan with you to ensure your smile is as healthy as possible moving forward.

Your Dental Cleaning

Preventive appointments aren’t just about polishing your teeth or reducing plaque and tartar. Your hygienist will take precise measurements to determine whether your gums are healthy or showing early warning signs of infection. If your gums are in good shape, we’ll continue with what you likely think of as a traditional cleaning. But if you have redness, bleeding, or swelling, we will recommend a personalized treatment plan designed to reverse infection and protect your smile from future complications.

Why Regular Dental Appointments Are So Important

As mentioned earlier, regular teeth cleanings are the only way to remove tartar. Tartar contains harmful bacteria that contribute to oral health problems like cavities and gum disease. Not to mention, it can leave behind unsightly yellow stains on your teeth. For this reason, getting a cleaning at least twice a year can help your teeth maintain their pearly white sheen.

In the grand scheme of things, attending a dental exam at Corbin Family Dental Care every six months is just as crucial to your oral health. Many dental health issues, like cavities, don’t show noticeable symptoms such as pain until they have reached the point where treatment is fairly difficult and costly. To prevent this, it’s important to let Dr. Whitaker examine your mouth on a regular basis. With her highly trained eyes, she can detect early warning signs of oral issues and devise a plan to handle them while treatment is still relatively easy and affordable.
